PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Rekis (ranked 3985 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Chiasson (ranked 20035 p4p, 0 weight class). Rekis comes to the cage accompanied by AC/DC - Thunderstruck. John Rekis had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Rekis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Chiasson!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rekis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Chiasson's waist but Chiasson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rekis off to one side.
Rekis misses with a takedown
and Chiasson counters with a straight right hand.
Rekis looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Rekis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rekis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Rekis looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Chiasson lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rekis wants to clinch up but Chiasson keeps it at a distance.
It seemed like Chiasson was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Rekis gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Rekis shoots in for a takedown but Chiasson shows good takedown defense.
Chiasson changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Rekis tries to clinch but Chiasson is having none of it.

and Chiasson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Chiasson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Rekis napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Rekis sneaks out the side door and pushes Chiasson away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

and Chiasson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rekis's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Chiasson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rekis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Chiasson tries to free his leg and advance position but Rekis is retaining full guard.

Rekis not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rekis avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Rekis takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Rekis moves in looking to clinch but Chiasson pushes him off.
John Rekis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rekis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Rekis doesn't manage to clinch there - Chiasson circles away.
Chiasson throws out a counter right but Rekis avoids it with no problem.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rekis is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Chiasson stalling away here and it's allowed Rekis to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Chiasson wants to pass the guard but Rekis is keeping the position.
Rekis wants to sweep but no luck.
Chiasson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Chiasson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Chiasson bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Rekis's head backwards.
Rekis tries for a takedown but Chiasson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Rekis looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Rekis fails with a takedown attempt.
Chiasson throws out a counter right but Rekis avoids it with no problem.
Chiasson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
A decent looking cross lands there for Chiasson.
No luck for Rekis with that takedown attempt.

Rekis takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Oh Rekis is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rekis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Rekis seems to have got his legs back now.
Rekis is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Rekis looks to land a combination but Chiasson avoids it well.
And Chiasson tries to counter it with a takedown but Rekis pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Rekis gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Matt Chiasson seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Rekis shoots in looking for a takedown but Chiasson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rekis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nice takedown defense from Chiasson. No joy for Rekis on that attempt.
Chiasson is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Chiasson lands a jab to the nose.
BOOM! Chiasson lands a beautiful left hook that drops Rekis. Rekis tries to recover but Chiasson is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Rekis lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

John Rekis was interviewed post fight and said 'I'll be back!!!'.
