Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jamal Battle (ranked 6114 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cy Cartwright (ranked 6748 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jamal Battle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cy Cartwright!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, John Mangel and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Battle is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cartwright.
Cartwright will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Battle misses with a hook.
Battle swings for the body but Cartwright moves out of range.
Battle just misses with a punch to the body.
Cartwright throws a nice looking combination but Battle bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Battle takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Battle waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Cartwright.
Battle looks to score with a jab to the body but Cartwright is just out of range.

Cartwright throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Battle tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cartwright is in Battle's guard.
Cartwright throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Battle works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Battle keeping moving, preventing Cartwright from controlling successfully.
Cartwright forces his way into half guard.

Battle is looking to control Cartwright's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Battle avoid being mounted?

Cartwright is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Cartwright lands strikes from half guard.
Cartwright is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Cartwright throwing shots but Battle is blocking nicely.
Battle is trying to maintain the position but Cartwright is very close to passing his half guard.

Battle is not content to let Cartwright control the position.
Cartwright might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Battle haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Cartwright looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Battle with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Cartwright seems to be looking for submissions.
Cartwright is controlling the pace.
Battle knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cartwright on the ground.

Cartwright thows a huge punch but Battle dodges it nicely.
Cartwright not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Battle is not content to let Cartwright control the position.
Cartwright scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Battle avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Cartwright.
Cartwright is nestled in close to Battle, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cartwright lands a nice short elbow.
Cartwright lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cartwright is working for a kimura but Battle is defending it quite comfortably.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Cartwright wants to work for an arm triangle but Battle is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cartwright connects with a nice short shot to Battle's temple.

Cartwright throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Cartwright wants to take a breather but Battle is having none of it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cy Cartwright dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A looping hook to the body misses from Battle. Cartwright does a little dance to reset his feet.

Battle gets caught napping as Cartwright dives in and scores a takedown. Battle manages to retain guard.
Cartwright throws a big right hand that misses.

Cartwright drops back looking for a leg! Battle is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Battle manages to kick Cartwright off! Cartwright jumps back into Battle's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cartwright accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Battle on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Battle tries to get out of the position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cartwright trying to control the position from guard on top but Battle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Cartwright works over Battle with some ground and pound from guard.
Cy Cartwright has got the better of the ground game so far.
Cartwright pushes down on Battle's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Cartwright working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Cartwright has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Cartwright thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Battle's head.
Cartwright lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Cartwright seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Battle is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Cy Cartwright!
