Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Santos Frederick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Diego Sanches!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanches shoots in for a takedown but Frederick shows good takedown defense.
Frederick stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Frederick wants it to stay on the feet.
Frederick fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sanches avoids it really well and circles away.
Frederick sets himself, and Sanches steps forward looking for the clinch! Frederick avoids it this time.
Sanches goes for a double leg but Frederick avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Frederick continues to drive forward.
Santos Frederick has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diego Sanches.

and Frederick counters with a series of strikes. Sanches will be more careful next time no doubt.
Sanches shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Frederick as he avoids it easily.

Frederick dives in and grabs Sanches's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sanches pushes down on Frederick's head and hops out.

Frederick has one of Sanches's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Frederick manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Sanches has picked Frederick up - he's going for a ride! Sanches dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Frederick gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Sanches to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Sanches is breathing heavily.
Frederick seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Sanches stands up over Frederick, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Frederick bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sanches's guard.

Sanches looking to hit a scissor sweep but Frederick is one step ahead there.
Frederick lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Sanches wants to get back to his feet but Frederick passes into half guard.

Frederick postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Sanches to stand up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sanches fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Frederick avoids it really well and circles away.
Sanches goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Sanches throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Frederick was covering up waiting for the punch and Sanches finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Frederick uses the cage to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Sanches changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Frederick tries to avoid it but Sanches manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Frederick to the ground. Frederick escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Sanches takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Sanches is working for a kimura but Frederick is defending it quite comfortably.

Sanches perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Sanches throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Frederick to regain full guard.

Sanches gets to his feet - Frederick follows without any prompting.

Sanches fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Frederick to the ground. Sanches is now in Frederick's guard.

Sanches looking to sit in guard and control but Frederick gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
