Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Malik Allen (ranked 7317 p4p, 575 weight class) and Bob Bates (ranked 5561 p4p, 508 weight class). Malik Allen has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Malik Allen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Bates!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Roberts and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bates shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Allen napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Bates controls the position from side control.
Allen trying to control but Bates flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Good control from Bates.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Allen is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Bates is riding his opponent, not letting Allen buck him off.
Allen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Allen can't escape the position.
Allen trying to control but not successfully.
Bates trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Allen doesn't escape.
Bates gets his hands free as Allen looks to control.
Bates is riding his opponent, not letting Allen buck him off.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

You can see the frustration on Allen's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Bates is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Allen is working hard here to advance position.
Bates has good solid back control here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bates keeps control of the position as Allen tries to break free.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Bates fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Allen to the ground. Bates is now in Allen's guard.

Allen has an active guard here but Bates has managed to pass into half guard.
Allen wants to control but Bates is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Bates is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Bates sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Bates's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Allen wants to hold on but Bates pushes him away.
Bates tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
More stalling from Bates.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Allen looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Bates has good solid back control here.

Allen wants to get back to his feet.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bates has the hooks in. Allen is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Allen is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Bates.
Allen wants to escape the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Allen trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Bates showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Bates closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Allen quickly recovers to half guard.
Allen scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Bates manages to mount him!
Allen is in all sorts of trouble here.
Bates takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Allen has given up his back here.
Allen is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Let's hope that Bates has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Bates is continuing to stall.
Bates is not going to allow Allen to sit and survive in this position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
I really don't envy Allen right now.
Allen wants to get back to his feet.
Bates controlling the position well here. Allen rolled but Bates kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Malik Allen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bob Bates is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Bates has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
