PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jo Boo (ranked 4270 p4p, 418 weight class) and Craig Patton (ranked 7984 p4p, 559 weight class). Patton is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Heart of a Champion - Nelly. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patton with a nice cross.
Patton is looking to slow Boo down with leg kicks.

Patton closes the distance and clinches.
Boo tries a knee to the head but Patton blocks it.

Patton has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Boo uses from the top position.
Boo works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Patton has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Boo is working away from the top position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Well, if Boo is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boo uses his free foot to push down on Patton's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Patton.
Boo scoring with strikes but Patton is staying in there.

Patton wants to try and get back to his feet.
Boo trying to control but Patton is having none of it.
Patton felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Boo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Patton is desperately trying to improve his position but Boo has a good base and remains in mount.

Boo working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Patton turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Boo off and cradles Patton's limp body as Boo celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Jo Boo!
