TWGC 21 (135lbs, D1): Finals - Round 1 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a bantamweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Yas Uru (ranked 2138 p4p, 107 weight class) and Takumi Sagaki (ranked 3412 p4p, 380 weight class). Sagaki has chosen Crazy Nights - Loudness as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the bantamweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 2 losses; Yas Uru! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 2 losses; Takumi Sagaki!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Ackerman and Donald Grub.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Uru has closed the distance and engaged Sagaki in a clinch.
Sagaki is trying to drag Uru to the mat but Uru just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Uru has Sagaki pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sagaki manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Sagaki tries to pull guard but Uru holds him up against the cage and eventually Sagaki drops back down to his feet.
Sagaki tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Uru smiles and moves away.
Yas Uru has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Takumi Sagaki.

Sagaki gets tackled into the cage by Uru. Uru maintains the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Uru gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Sagaki.

Uru is trying to trip Sagaki. He has hold of a leg but Sagaki is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Uru persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Uru controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Uru wants to pass the guard but Sagaki is keeping the position.

Sagaki is trying to control but can't.

Sagaki is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Uru pulls his head out easily.
We've been hearing that Uru has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Uru is thwarting Sagaki's attempts to control the position.

Uru performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Uru is pressing down on Sagaki's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sagaki is holding on for now.
Uru is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Sagaki is looking to control Uru's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sagaki avoid being mounted?
Uru takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Uru wants to free his trapped foot but Sagaki is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Sagaki wants to improve his position but Uru is controlling well.
Sagaki keeps trying to improve his position.
Uru is taking a breather. Sagaki says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Uru has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Sagaki is controlling Uru's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Sagaki is trying to maintain the position but Uru is very close to passing his half guard.
Sagaki tries to get to full guard but Uru has control of the leg.

Uru seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Sagaki tries to roll over but Uru keeps him under control.
Sagaki wants to control but Uru is keeping busy.
Uru is taking a breather. Sagaki says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Uru wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sagaki keeps working.

Well, if Uru is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Uru is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Sagaki will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Uru takes a little break here. Sagaki wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Sagaki is looking to reverse the position.

Uru takes the fight on points by 5 to 0.
After the fight, Yas Uru was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
