PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Barry Roman (ranked 6009 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Orlowski (ranked 4920 p4p, 0 weight class). Orlowski has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Jan Orlowski is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Phil Schofield and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roman displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Orlowski.

A bit of a lull in the action here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Roman is on top in guard.

Roman lands a couple of elbows.
Roman slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Roman has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roman has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Roman's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

and Orlowski counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Roman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Orlowski shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Roman sprawls well. Roman wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Orlowski gets slowly back to his feet.

Orlowski bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Roman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Orlowski's guard.

Roman shoots in looking for a takedown but Orlowski manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Roman's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Roman throws a wild body kick that Orlowski sees coming a mile off.

Roman does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Roman walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Orlowski checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Orlowski looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

A nice side step and Orlowski releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Roman pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Orlowski goes for a double leg but Roman avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Roman continues to drive forward.
Roman is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Orlowski.

Roman shoots in for a takedown but Orlowski shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Horrible takedown attempt by Roman or perhaps it was just good defense by Orlowski, which made it look bad.
Orlowski lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Roman swings for the body but Orlowski moves out of range.
Barry Roman is winning the standup battle so far.
Roman misses with a wild body shot.
Despite the aggression on Orlowski's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Orlowski.
Roman tries a head kick but it misses.
Orlowski takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Orlowski changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Roman tries to avoid it but Orlowski manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Roman to the ground. Roman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Roman manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Orlowski throws an elbow that misses. Roman uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Orlowski's guard. Nice move by Roman!

Barry Roman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Roman is in close to Orlowski's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Roman makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Well Roman has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
