Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Luiz Correia Azevedo (ranked 2381 p4p, 281 weight class) and Takumi Sagaki (ranked 3442 p4p, 394 weight class). Sagaki is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Crazy Nights - Loudness. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Luiz Correia Azevedo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Takumi Sagaki!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Azevedo checks the leg kick.
Azevedo scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Azevedo throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Azevedo fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Sagaki misses with the combination.
Azevedo misses with an attempted mid kick.
Azevedo misses with an uppercut

and Sagaki counters with a single leg into guard. Azevedo didn't expect that.
Sagaki's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Sagaki postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Azevedo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Sagaki throws a big right hand that misses.
Azevedo trying to keep a closed guard but Sagaki is proving a slippery customer.
Sagaki trying to control but Azevedo is working from the bottom.
Sagaki is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Sagaki is working Azevedo over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Sagaki tries to free his leg and advance position but Azevedo is retaining full guard.
Sagaki is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Azevedo seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Sagaki sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Azevedo's guard.
Azevedo gets back to full guard.
Sagaki stands and throws Azevedo's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Azevedo tries to bench press Sagaki off him but Sagaki keeps the position.
Sagaki is working Azevedo over with some ground and pound from side control.
Sagaki misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Azevedo is looking to regain half guard here but Sagaki keeps moving and retains side control.
Sagaki controls the position.
Sagaki lands a decent elbow from side control.
Sagaki lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Azevedo down.
Azevedo sneaks back into half guard.
Azevedo taking some punishment here, with Sagaki in his half guard.
Still in half guard, Sagaki seems content to control.
Azevedo is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Sagaki scores with a couple of nice shots.

Sagaki wants to work for an arm triangle but Azevedo is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Sagaki is thwarting Azevedo's attempts to control the position.
Sagaki prevents Azevedo from standing back up.
Azevedo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sagaki lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Azevedo wants to get back to full guard but Sagaki has passed into side control.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takumi Sagaki dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Sagaki throws a hook but Azevedo blocks it.
Azevedo bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Sagaki scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Azevedo throws a body punch but Sagaki moves out of range.
Sagaki swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Azevedo moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

and Sagaki counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Azevedo!

Sagaki thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Azevedo takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Azevedo takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Sagaki is working Azevedo over with some ground and pound from side control.

Sagaki creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Sagaki slows the pace down.
Azevedo tries to bench press Sagaki off him but Sagaki keeps the position.

Azevedo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sagaki wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Sagaki is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Azevedo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Sagaki works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Sagaki in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Sagaki. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Sagaki fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Oh Azevedo is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Sagaki looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Azevedo covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
