The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Xavier throws a right and a left that Bogard avoids nicely.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Bogard has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Bogard drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bogard jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Xavier looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
