PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brian Roper (ranked 3482 p4p, 395 weight class) and Rafael Mendes (ranked 2972 p4p, 339 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brian Roper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rafael Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roper clinches with his opponent.
Roper misses with a punch to the body.
Roper throws a head punch that misses.
Mendes has Roper pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Roper manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Mendes blocks a body shot from Roper.
Mendes prevents a body shot from Roper.
Roper misses with a hook from the clinch.
Mendes tries for a takedown. No joy.
Roper doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Roper pushes Mendes back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Roper throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Mendes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Mendes pushes down on Roper's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mendes in particular looking to stall.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mendes forces his way into half guard.

Roper tries to roll over but Mendes keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
