IFC 52 Chugman vs Mumu PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Klaus Chugman (ranked 55 p4p, 8 weight class) and Abdel Mumu (ranked 537 p4p, 69 weight class). Abdel Mumu has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Klaus Chugman's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 wins, 1 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of St Petersburg, Abdel Mumu!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Percy O'Donnell and Frank Antenori.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chugman has his takedown stuffed
and Mumu counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
A punch lands to the side of Chugman 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Chugman throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Mumu uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Chugman.
Mumu cracks the inside of Chugman's front leg.
Chugman misses with a body shot.
Chugman fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Mumu checks it well.
Chugman misses with a hook. Mumu ducked under it nicely.
Mumu swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chugman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mumu tries to avoid it but Chugman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mumu to the ground. Mumu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Mumu stuffs the takedown attempt from Chugman. Chugman gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Klaus Chugman. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Chugman tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mumu sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chugman somewhat.
A looping hook to the body misses from Chugman. Mumu does a little dance to reset his feet.
It seemed like Mumu was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Chugman has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Chugman changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Chugman throws a solid leg kick but Mumu takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Chugman.
Mumu looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Mumu is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Chugman throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Mumu was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Chugman throws a hook but Mumu blocks it.
Mumu swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Chugman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mumu to the mat! Mumu manages to get full guard.
Mumu is a very stocky fighter. Infact he's such a weird shape that he's almost like some sort of comedy character - it's hard to believe he's real.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mumu wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Chugman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Chugman looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mumu slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Mumu can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Chugman controls the pace.

Chugman has gone for a leg lock! Mumu slips out almost immediately though and dives into Chugman's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's time! Chugman's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Chugman shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Chugman was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Chugman is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mumu knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Mumu felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Chugman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Chugman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mumu tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Chugman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Chugman swings around for an armbar but Mumu sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Chugman's guard.

Chugman has his foot on Mumu's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mumu works his way back into a safe position though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That was a close second round but I would say that Klaus Chugman will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Mumu tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Chugman was well out of range. Poor timing from Mumu.
Oh Chugman is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

and Mumu scores with a counter punch that sends Chugman to the canvas! Mumu smells blood - he's punishing Chugman with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Chugman has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:35 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Abdel Mumu!
