Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Santiago Costa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Leonardo Konate!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Jonathan Paton and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Costa darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Costa looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Konate wants to get back to his feet.
Costa wants to work for an arm triangle but Konate is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Costa is working for a kimura but Konate is defending it quite comfortably.
Konate has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Touch Of Death Combat Academy. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Costa is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Konate pushes Costa off and gets back to his feet.
Konate throws a one two combo.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Konate lands with an uppercut that bounces Costa off the cage and back into range.
Konate scores with a shot to the body.
A head kick by Costa misses
and Konate counters with a straight right hand.
Konate tries a head kick but it misses.
Konate avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Konate.
Konate throws a head kick but Costa moves out of range.
Costa takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Konate closes the distance and clinches.
Konate lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Costa taking a breather.
Konate avoiding damage as Costa throws knees to the body.
Konate's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Konate misses with a series of wild punches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Konate tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Costa was well out of range. Poor timing from Konate.
A left and a right from Konate both land. Nice combination.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Konate scores with a jab to the body.
Costa throws a head kick that misses.
Costa misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Konate looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Costa shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Konate sprawls well. Konate wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Costa gets slowly back to his feet.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Konate! But no joy.
Konate scores with a sloppy right hand. Costa should have avoided that one.
Konate fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Konate moves into range and clinches up with Costa.
Konate breaks from the clinch.
Konate takes the fight into the clinch.
Costa jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Konate walks away with a smile on his face. Costa gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Costa finds himself stumbling back on wobbly legs after being clipped by a right hand. He's up against the cage, ducking and weaving under Konate's strikes but an uppercut finds it's way through and Costa falls! - He's completely out of it and the ref jumps in to save him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Leonardo Konate!
