The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodgers lands with a hook. Smietana tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

I was talking to Rodgers's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Smietana throws a hook but Rodgers blocks it.

Smietana shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rodgers sprawls well. Rodgers wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smietana gets slowly back to his feet.

Smietana lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Rodgers feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Smietana sprawling to the canvas! Smietana rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Rodgers finish him?!
