Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Erik Hughes (ranked 25164 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drive Faster (ranked 5847 p4p, 409 weight class). Drive Faster has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Erik Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Drive Faster!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Faster misses with a combination
and Hughes makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Hughes wants to clinch up but Faster keeps it at a distance.
Faster pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Hughes back to the cage. Faster follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
A slapping leg kick lands for Hughes.
Hughes avoids the head kick by Faster.
Hughes steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Faster.
Faster shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hughes sprawls well. Hughes wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Faster gets slowly back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hughes gets in close and instigates a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hughes is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Faster to keep the fight standing.
Faster is trying to pull guard but Hughes turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Faster manages to pull guard.
Faster is looking to stand up but Hughes isn't so interested in that idea.

Hughes decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Faster, up you get!

Hughes moves into the clinch.
Hughes jumps guard but Faster stands there with Hughes around his waist. Hughes gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Faster gets control of Hughes's arms and successfully pulls guard. Faster will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Hughes postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hughes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hughes with a flurry of punches that miss.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hughes throws a strike but Faster rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Hughes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hughes working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Faster has passed into half guard!
Hughes is looking to control Faster's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hughes avoid being mounted?
Hughes moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Faster postures up in Hughes's guard and throws a big left but Hughes blocks it.

Hughes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Faster gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hughes will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Faster connects with a couple of short punches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hughes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Faster doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Faster manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Faster postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Hughes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Faster can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hughes is breathing heavily.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Faster got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hughes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Faster has managed to get both his arms back between Hughes's legs - danger averted.
Faster with a nice head shot there.
Faster trying to control the position from guard on top but Hughes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Faster is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Faster connects with a couple of short punches.
Faster is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Faster looking to improve position, pressing down on Hughes's thigh with his hand. Hughes seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Faster paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Faster's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Hughes picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Erik Hughes!
