Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Phil Martin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Aaron Thomas !
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Peter Branson and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thomas shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Martin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Thomas throwing strikes from guard but Martin blocks nicely.
Thomas seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Thomas throws a big elbow that misses.
Thomas trying to control but Martin is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Martin throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Thomas tries to free his leg and advance position but Martin is retaining full guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Martin is pulling down on Thomas 's head. It's preventing any offense from Thomas , at least for the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Thomas has Martin up against the cage in a clinch.
Thomas is trying to break the clinch but Martin has him pressed against the cage.

Martin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Martin goes for a takedown in the clinch but Thomas prevents it.
Thomas tries to pull guard but Martin holds him up against the cage and eventually Thomas drops back down to his feet.

Martin is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Martin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Thomas is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Thomas is pressed up against the cage. Martin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Thomas down to the mat. Thomas avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Thomas tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Martin defends well and Thomas ends up having to push Martin into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Thomas lands with a kick to the temple. Martin shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Thomas shoots in for a takedown but Martin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Martin tries for a takedown but Thomas sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Martin is breathing heavily.
Martin fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Martin shoots in looking for a takedown. Thomas tries to sprawl out of it but Martin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Thomas manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
No luck for Thomas with that takedown attempt.
Thomas moves out of range of the leg kick from Martin.

Thomas shoots in looking for a takedown but Martin manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Thomas 's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Martin fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Thomas goes for a double leg but Martin avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Martin continues to drive forward.

Thomas gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Thomas manages to pull guard.

Thomas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Martin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Martin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Thomas has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Martin is stalling in the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Thomas fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Martin, pushing him back against the cage.

Martin jumps guard and drags Thomas to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Thomas gets to his feet. Martin looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Martin was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Thomas is looking to clinch.
Thomas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Martin's waist but Martin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Thomas off to one side.
Thomas tries to clinch but Martin moves out of range.

Thomas closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Martin did well to prevent Thomas getting side control.

Thomas is keen to just control but Martin is a slippery customer.

Thomas prevents Martin from standing back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

and Martin counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Martin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Martin tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Martin pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Thomas throws a front kick that sends Martin stumbling back into the cage.
Martin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Thomas pinned against the cage. Thomas gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Thomas looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Thomas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Martin misses with a takedown attempt - Thomas sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Thomas changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Martin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Thomas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Martin keeps working.
Thomas lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Martin wants to control but Thomas postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Thomas tries to advance to mount but Martin denies him.

A close second round but Aaron Thomas will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Martin tries to close the distance and clinch up but Thomas swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Thomas wants to slow Martin down by chopping away at his legs.

Thomas shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Martin has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Thomas is on him like a limpet, forcing Martin back against the cage.
Thomas jumps guard but Martin stands there with Thomas around his waist. Thomas gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Thomas can't break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thomas has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Martin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Thomas wants to control from the top but Martin keeps moving.

Thomas works over Martin with some ground and pound from guard.
Martin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Thomas looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Thomas prevents Martin from getting the reversal.
Phil Martin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Aaron Thomas is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

I've got Thomas winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
