Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roman Slobodyanyuk (ranked 4805 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Maki (ranked 5901 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Roman Slobodyanyuk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Justin Maki!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Dirk Anderson and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maki throws a nice looking combination but Slobodyanyuk bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Maki throws a head kick but Slobodyanyuk moves out of range.

and Maki counters by clinching up.
Slobodyanyuk prevents the takedown attempt.

Maki has hold of one of Slobodyanyuk's legs. Slobodyanyuk is fighting the takedown attempt but Maki gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Maki must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Slobodyanyuk working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Maki doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Maki manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Slobodyanyuk thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Maki really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Slobodyanyuk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Maki is looking to sweep but instead, Slobodyanyuk has passed into half guard.
Maki is staying active underneath Slobodyanyuk, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That was a close round but I would say that Roman Slobodyanyuk will probably get the nod.

Maki takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Slobodyanyuk is defended easily by Maki.
Slobodyanyuk throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Maki's waist but Maki gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Slobodyanyuk off to one side.
Maki is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.

and Slobodyanyuk counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Slobodyanyuk chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Maki can pounce on him.
Slobodyanyuk shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Maki pinned against the cage. Maki gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Maki stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Maki wants it to stay on the feet.

Maki looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Slobodyanyuk is fending him off so far but Maki persists. Nope, Slobodyanyuk circles away and we're back to standing.

Maki takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Slobodyanyuk really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Slobodyanyuk jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Maki walks away with a smile on his face. Slobodyanyuk gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Slobodyanyuk shoots in looking for a takedown but Maki manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Slobodyanyuk's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Slobodyanyuk avoids a punch combination nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Justin Maki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Maki has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
