PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Trenton Diaz (ranked 5025 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Cloud (ranked 5899 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Trenton Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Frankie Cloud!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, David Hoff and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cloud fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Diaz, pushing him back against the cage.

Cloud breaks from the clinch.
Diaz shoots in and drives through. Cloud sprawls well.
Diaz tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Cloud moves into the clinch successfully.

Cloud drags the fight down to the ground.
Diaz wants to get up but he can't break Cloud's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Diaz postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Diaz looking to sit in guard and control but Cloud gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Cloud really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cloud wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cloud stays in close to Diaz's body and controls the position.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cloud's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Cloud got a little sloppy there for a moment and Diaz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cloud has managed to get both his arms back between Diaz's legs - danger averted.
Diaz thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Diaz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cloud controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Diaz has an active guard here but Cloud has managed to pass into half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Cloud is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Cloud is trying to control. Diaz wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Cloud passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Diaz!
Diaz's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Diaz shoots in and drives through. Cloud sprawls well.

Cloud shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Diaz looks like he's trying to stand up.
Cloud not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Diaz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cloud is looking to take a break and control but Diaz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Diaz is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cloud pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Diaz shoots for a takedown but Cloud saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Diaz misses with a takedown attempt - Cloud sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Cloud counters with a big head kick but Diaz shrugs it off.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trenton Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Diaz tries to clinch there but Cloud circles away.
Cloud shoots in for a double leg but Diaz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Diaz wants to clinch up but Cloud keeps it at a distance.
Cloud keeps the fight on the outside.
As Diaz backs off Cloud throws a huge counter combo but Diaz manages to avoid it all.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz fails with an attempt to clinch.
Diaz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cloud manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Cloud tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Trenton Diaz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Cloud takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Diaz is defending against the submission attempts here by Cloud.
Cloud seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Diaz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cloud not doing much here.
Cloud wants to lay and pray for a moment but Diaz keeps working.
Cloud perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Diaz wants to get back to full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Cloud closes the distance and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diaz is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Cloud to keep the fight standing.
Cloud content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Cloud tightens his grip and picks Diaz up, before dumping him to the ground. Diaz manages to land in guard.
Diaz is wriggling around but Cloud manages to pass to half guard.

Diaz looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Cloud pushes past his half guard into mount!

Cloud looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Cloud stops Diaz from getting back to his feet.

A nice combination there by Diaz.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Diaz.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frankie Cloud showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Diaz lands a nice looking body shot.
Cloud defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Diaz.
A head kick from Cloud lands but Diaz takes it in his stride.
Cloud falls off balance throwing a combination
and Diaz counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Cloud thinking.

Cloud has Diaz pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Cloud pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Diaz tumbling to the mat - Cloud dives into Diaz's guard.

Diaz is looking to stand up but Cloud isn't so interested in that idea.

Diaz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cloud defends it easily.
Cloud connects with a couple of short punches.

Cloud decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Cloud has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Diaz clobbers Cloud with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Cloud misses with a combination
and Diaz counters with a nice body shot.
Diaz dives in and grabs Cloud's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cloud pushes down on Diaz's head and hops out.

Cloud's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Cloud stuffs the takedown.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Diaz fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Cloud looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Diaz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Diaz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cloud's waist but Cloud gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Diaz off to one side.

Cloud rushes Diaz and presses him up against the cage.

Frankie Cloud comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cloud has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
