PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lionel Cabrera (ranked 5881 p4p, 0 weight class) and Esko Inkinen (ranked 25414 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lionel Cabrera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Esko Inkinen!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cabrera fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Inkinen sprawls well initially but Cabrera persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Inkinen can do anything to dispel that myth.

Cabrera wants to work for an arm triangle but Inkinen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Inkinen tries to get to full guard but Cabrera has control of the leg.

Cabrera stands up out of the half guard.
Inkinen looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cabrera has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Inkinen uses from the top position.

Inkinen is working an open guard so Cabrera takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Cabrera lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Cabrera stands and steps away. Inkinen gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cabrera accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Cabrera stands up and waves to Inkinen to follow him.
Inkinen throws a right and a left that Cabrera avoids nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Cabrera feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Inkinen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Cabrera throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Inkinen works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Inkinen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cabrera manages to get himself to full guard.

Inkinen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cabrera. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Inkinen darts in and clinches Cabrera up against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Inkinen breaks from the clinch.

Cabrera shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Cabrera is nestled in close to Inkinen, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Cabrera lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Cabrera seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Cabrera closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cabrera lands in his opponent's guard.
Lionel Cabrera overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Cabrera drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Cabrera as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Inkinen screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Cabrera! Nice submission victory there!
