Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Geoffrey Barr (ranked 25388 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hank Sager (ranked 5883 p4p, 0 weight class). Hank Sager will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Geoffrey Barr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hank Sager!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Roberts and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sager works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.


It looks like Geoffrey Barr has been cut.

Barr bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Sager throws Barr to one side and escapes!
Sager throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Barr's waist but Barr gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sager off to one side.
It looked like Barr was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Sager.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sager is defended easily by Barr.
Sager lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Barr circles away quickly and effectively.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sager throws out a leg kick but Barr moves out of range and Sager only half commits.
Sager misses with a takedown attempt
and Barr counters with a nice body kick.
Geoffrey Barr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hank Sager.
Barr leaves Sager with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Sager will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Sager throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Barr counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Sager!

Barr stands up and beckons Sager to his feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Sager or perhaps it was just good defense by Barr, which made it look bad.

and Barr connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Sager misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Barr.
Barr is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Sager.
Barr stuffs the takedown attempt from Sager. Sager gets slowly back to his feet.

Sager gets tackled into the cage by Barr. Barr maintains the clinch.
Sager is trying to force a seperation but Barr has the dominant position.

Barr jumps guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sager got a little sloppy there for a moment and Barr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sager has managed to get both his arms back between Barr's legs - danger averted.

Barr is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sager is aware though and is defending well.

Barr working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Sager has passed into half guard!

Sager escapes and gets back to his feet.

Barr fails to land the takedown.
Hank Sager seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sager scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Barr doesn't seem bothered though.
Barr tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sager defends well and Barr ends up having to push Sager into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

That was a close round but I would say that Geoffrey Barr will probably get the nod.

Sager jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Barr wants to clinch up but Sager keeps it at a distance.

Barr shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sager's guard.
Sager is looking to stand up but Barr isn't so interested in that idea.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sager is wriggling around but Barr manages to pass to half guard.
Barr prevents Sager from standing back up.

Sager scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Sager swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Barr counters with a takedown into side control.

Sager explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Barr throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sager tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Barr is in Sager's guard.

Sager uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Sager is breathing heavily.

Sager throws a nice outside leg kick.
Barr avoids a punch combination nicely.
Barr is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

Sager feints and as Barr raises his hands in defense, Sager changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Barr has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Sager is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Sager would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Barr wants to control the position but Sager says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Barr is trying to control but can't.

Sager will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Sager dives in and grabs Barr's left leg, looking for a takedown. Barr pushes down on Sager's head and hops out.
A quick step to the side and Barr tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Barr slips a straight right by Sager.
Sager shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Barr defends it nicely.

Barr closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sager's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Hank Sager will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Sager is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Barr's half guard.

Barr kicks off Sager and gets to his feet.
Sager goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Barr misses with a takedown attempt - Sager sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sager tries to bum rush Barr with a series of wild strikes but Barr uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Barr uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Sager.
Hank Sager seems to be getting the better of the standup.

so Barr counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sager takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Barr would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Sager preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Geoffrey Barr overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sager manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Sager misses with a low kick as Barr jumps back.
Sager shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Barr but Barr pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Barr thinks about countering with a body kick.

Barr pushes Sager up against the cage in a clinch.

Sager is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Sager wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Barr has him pressed against the cage.

Sager manages to break the clinch.
Sager shoots for a takedown but Barr saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Sager wants to stand but Barr is controlling the position.
Barr scoring with some ground and pound.

Barr is looking to stand up but Sager won't let him.

Barr has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Barr has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sager is proving hard to escape from.
Sager is looking to stand up but Barr isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Sager scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Barr closes the distance and clinches.
Barr tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Sager is trying to push Barr away but Barr has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Sager is looking to break free of the clinch but Barr has double underhooks.
Barr just leaning against Sager, taking a breather.

Barr is trying to trip Sager. He has hold of a leg but Sager is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Barr persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Sager manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Sager breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sager wants to clinch up but Barr keeps it at a distance.
Sager just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromBarr.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Geoffrey Barr.
I think Barr has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
