The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gashi doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Gashi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Gashi.
Annunziata lands a jab to Gashi's midsection.
Annunziata lands an overhand right.

It looks like Enver Gashi has been cut.
Gashi misses with a takedown attempt
and Annunziata counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Enver Gashi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gashi tries to score a power double leg takedown but Annunziata sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gashi somewhat.
It seemed like Annunziata was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Annunziata moves into range and connects with a jab.
Annunziata bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Gashi's head backwards.

and Annunziata counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Gashi is rocked!

Enver Gashi's cut is getting worse.
Annunziata works the jab nicely.
Oh Gashi is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gashi has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

and Annunziata counters with a crisp right hand that drops Gashi! Annunziata lets Gashi back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
Annunziata lands a right hook to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gashi ducks right into an uppercut from Annunziata.
Annunziata cracks Gashi on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Gashi falls backwards against the ropes. Annunziata follows up with more strikes that drop Gashi to his knees. Annunziata keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Gashi! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ciro Annunziata!
Ciro Annunziata is the new featherweight champion!
Ciro Annunziata was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
