PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hector Barras (ranked 7042 p4p, 320 weight class) and Marco Chavez (ranked 7754 p4p, 333 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hector Barras !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marco Chavez!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Felipe Paraventi and Luis Engracia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barras throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Chavez's waist but Chavez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Barras off to one side.
Barras fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Chavez avoids it really well and circles away.
Chavez throws a sloppy head kick

and Barras counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Barras is nestled in close to Chavez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Barras is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Barras wants to get back to his feet.

Barras is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Chavez is just riding it out for now. Barras eventually gives up the hold.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barras landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Barras is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Barras prevents Chavez from improving his position.
Chavez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Barras is working away from the top position though.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Barras lands a nice short elbow.
Chavez on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Chavez controlling the position well.
Chavez is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Barras scores with a couple of nice shots.

Chavez is rocked!
Barras looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Chavez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Chavez is still in real trouble! Can Barras finish him?
Barras lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Chavez! More strikes land and this one is all over! Barras jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
