The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sionis misses with the body kick

and Mc Elroy counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mc Elroy.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mc Elroy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Sionis has his hands on Mc Elroy's head, controlling the position.
Mc Elroy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mc Elroy postures up in Sionis's guard and throws a big left but Sionis blocks it.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Mc Elroy is pressing down on Sionis's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sionis is holding on for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Sionis avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
As Mc Elroy backs away, Sionis returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

Sionis was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Mc Elroy manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sionis on his heels. He'll look to pass Sionis's guard now, I'm sure.

Mc Elroy stands and throws Sionis's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Mc Elroy is trying to pull guard but Sionis turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

It looks like Roman Sionis has been cut.

Mc Elroy has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mc Elroy's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Sionis pushes Mc Elroy back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mc Elroy is breathing heavily.
Sionis lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Mc Elroy blocks an uppercut.
Mc Elroy changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sionis fights it off and pushes away nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sionis throws a push kick but Mc Elroy slaps the foot to one side.
And Mc Elroy tries to counter it with a takedown but Sionis pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Mc Elroy tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sionis paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sionis buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Mc Elroy takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Sionis just misses with a punch to the body.
Mc Elroy checks the leg kick nicely there.
Sionis tries a low kick but Mc Elroy avoids it.
A solid leg kick lands there for Sionis.

Mc Elroy is rocked!
Sionis throws a nasty head kick that just misses. He throws another kick to the head of his opponent and almost takes it off! Mc Elroy crumples to the floor and the fight is over!
