PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wilton Wade (ranked 24894 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shunte Calhoun (ranked 7945 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Shunte Calhoun was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A right-left combo lands from Wade.
Wade blocks a head kick by Calhoun.

Calhoun manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Wade on his heels. He'll look to pass Wade's guard now, I'm sure.

Wade manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Wade misses with a body punch.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wade wants to stand but Calhoun is controlling the position.
Calhoun must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Wade really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Wade enables Calhoun to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Wade manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Wade gets tackled into the cage by Calhoun. Calhoun maintains the clinch.
Wade has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Calhoun avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Wade will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Calhoun really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wade. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Calhoun wants to take a breather but Wade is having none of it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Calhoun feints a jab promting Wade to slip. Calhoun then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Wade slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Calhoun has hold of one of Wade's legs. Wade is fighting the takedown attempt but Calhoun gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Wade shoots in for a double leg but Calhoun sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

That was a close second round but I would say that Wilton Wade will probably get the nod.
