PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Big Guns (ranked 485 p4p, 67 weight class) and Archie Moore (ranked 292 p4p, 42 weight class). Archie Moore told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moore defending well as Guns loads up on a big left hand.
Moore lands a body shot.
Guns throws a body kick that misses.
A little jabbing left from Moore on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Guns looks to score with a jab to the body but Moore is just out of range.
Guns on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Moore connects with an inside leg kick.
Guns throws a low kick but Moore moves out of range easily.
Moore misses with a body shot.
Moore tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Guns pivots, looking for a leg kick but Moore is out of range and Guns settles back down.

Moore has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Guns fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Moore, pushing him back against the cage.

Moore seems to have recovered his senses.
I was talking to Guns's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Moore is struggling to control the position.
Guns goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Guns is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Moore is keeping busy.
Moore tries to work over Guns's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Moore looking to throw knees to the head but Guns is blocking nicely.

Moore breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Guns throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Guns bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Guns tries to clinch there but Moore circles away.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Guns throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Moore sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Moore on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Guns tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Moore manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Guns misses with a straight left.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Archie Moore will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Moore connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Guns has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Moore.
Guns is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Moore.
Moore throws a counter combo.
A jab from Moore does it's job there.
Archie Moore seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Moore throws a looping overhand right but Guns ducks down to avoid it.

Guns looks to land a left hand but Moore moved out of range nicely.

Moore avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Moore ducks right into an uppercut from Guns.

and Guns counters with a big uppercut that knocks Moore off his feet! Guns dives into side control looking to finish!

Guns looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Guns tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Guns wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Moore, who protects the arm well.
You can see the frustration on Moore's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Guns is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Guns working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Guns has hold of Moore's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Moore tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Guns cranks the arm and Moore screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Moore, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Big Guns!
After winning the bout, Big Guns thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
Archie Moore was interviewed post fight and said 'Ugh'.
