PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Manu Mikkonen (ranked 1977 p4p, 215 weight class) and Cyril Figgis (ranked 2090 p4p, 227 weight class). Mikkonen comes to the cage accompanied by When Worlds Collide. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Manu Mikkonen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Cyril Figgis!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mikkonen showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Figgis.
A jab lands there for Mikkonen.
Figgis moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Mikkonen scores with a decent looking hook.


It looks like Cyril Figgis has been cut.
We've been told by Mikkonen's head coaches at Stark Slugger Society that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Nice shot by Figgis.
Figgis tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mikkonen paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Figgis pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mikkonen tried to counter with a leg kick but Figgis avoided it.
Figgis drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Mikkonen throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Mikkonen steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Figgis.
Figgis slips under a jab from Mikkonen.
Figgis slips a jab and a cross from Mikkonen.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Figgis clinches.
Figgis misses with a hook to the ribs.
Figgis misses with a hook to the ribs.
Figgis misses with a punch to the body.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Figgis.
Figgis takes an elbow to the temple.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Mikkonen.
Figgis lands with a right to the head.

Mikkonen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Figgis ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mikkonen moves away.
Mikkonen jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Figgis swings for the body but Mikkonen moves out of range.
Mikkonen connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Figgis tumbling to the canvas! Mikkonen pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Figgis was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Manu Mikkonen!
Manu Mikkonen tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
