PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Davos Kung (ranked 8481 p4p, 619 weight class) and Devin Watkins (ranked 8236 p4p, 612 weight class). Watkins is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: What Happened to That Boi. Davos Kung had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 172.5lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Davos Kung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Devin Watkins!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watkins throws a right and a left that Kung avoids nicely.
Watkins slaps away a takedown attempt from Kung, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Kung rushes Watkins and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Watkins misses with an elbow strike.
Kung has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Watkins is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Watkins digs a right hand underneath Kung's ribcage. Kung let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Watkins unloads a knee to the mid-section. Kung lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Kung is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Watkins to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Davos Kung. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kung is breathing heavily.
Watkins unloads a knee to the mid-section. Kung lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Watkins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Watkins moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Watkins scores with a head kick.


It looks like Davos Kung has been cut.
Watkins scores with a crisp jab that stopped Kung in his tracks.
Kung takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Watkins cracks Kung with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Watkins has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Kung to stand back up!


Kung is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Watkins gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Oh Kung is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kung takes an elbow to the temple.
Watkins lands an elbow just above Kung 's eye.

Watkins turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Watkins manages to end up in side control.

Watkins decides to stand back up.

Kung gets tackled into the cage by Watkins. Watkins maintains the clinch.
Kung seems to have got his legs back now.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Watkins has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Watkins pulls guard successfully.
Watkins looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Watkins is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Watkins takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Watkins maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Kung could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Watkins has cracked it and Kung is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Watkins!
