PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Choong Il Lee (ranked 7223 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ali Zayed Abdulrakhman (ranked 5348 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Ali Zayed Abdulrakhman is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ali Zayed Abdulrakhman!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Daniel Franklin and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Abdulrakhman counters by clinching up.
Lee looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Abdulrakhman has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Abdulrakhman manages to pull guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Abdulrakhman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lee gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Abdulrakhman pulls Lee in close to prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Abdulrakhman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lee can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Abdulrakhman throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lee was covering up waiting for the punch and Abdulrakhman finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Abdulrakhman tries to free his leg and advance position but Lee is retaining full guard.
Abdulrakhman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Abdulrakhman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Abdulrakhman throws a body shot but no joy.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Lee enables Abdulrakhman to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lee manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Abdulrakhman stands and steps away. Lee gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Abdulrakhman fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lee sprawls well initially but Abdulrakhman persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Abdulrakhman seems content to control.
Abdulrakhman's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Lee is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Abdulrakhman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lee. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lee has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Abdulrakhman is working away from the top position though.

Abdulrakhman is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Lee seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Sloppy strikes from Abdulrakhman. Those never looked like landing.

Abdulrakhman moves into the clinch successfully.
Abdulrakhman will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Lee up against the cage.
Abdulrakhman throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Lee blocks it with crossed arms.

Abdulrakhman's coach down at Gimnasio di Heritage Nel Culo was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Abdulrakhman's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Ali Zayed Abdulrakhman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Abdulrakhman connects with a nice short shot to Lee's temple.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Abdulrakhman tries to pass the half guard into mount. Lee knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Abdulrakhman closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Abdulrakhman lands in his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Abdulrakhman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lee swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Lee has a closed guard, preventing Abdulrakhman from standing up.
Choong Il Lee has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ali Zayed Abdulrakhman is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Abdulrakhman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
