Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Paul Flores (ranked 24254 p4p, 0 weight class) and Genghis Can (ranked 6594 p4p, 0 weight class). Genghis Can has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Paul Flores's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Flores!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Genghis Can!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Topper Green and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Can feints and as Flores raises his hands in defense, Can changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Flores avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Can scoring with some ground and pound.
Can wants to control from the top but Flores keeps moving.

Flores is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Can trying to control the position from guard on top but Flores is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Can controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Can trying to control the position from guard on top but Flores is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Can sitting in guard, not really doing much.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Flores gets a takedown into half guard.
Can wants to stand back up but Flores manages to pass into side control.
Can tries to improve position but can't.

You can see the frustration on Can's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Flores in side control, throwing shots but Can defends.
Can tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Flores is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Can has escaped the position, nice work there.

Flores thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Can tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Flores wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Can manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Flores looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Can controlling the pace.
Can looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Can stalling.
Can scoring with strikes to the body and head.

Can looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Can content to control rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Genghis Can dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Can gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Flores counters with a takedown into side control.
Flores will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Flores is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Can has escaped the position, nice work there.
I wouldn't like to be where Can is right now.
Can tries to get back to half guard but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Flores working away.
Flores prevents Can from escaping the position.

Flores tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Can tries to buck Flores off but Flores is having none of it.
Can is still trying to improve position.
Can wants to control but Flores postures up.
Flores blocks the strikes from Can.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Can throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Flores was covering up waiting for the punch and Can finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Genghis Can has got the better of the ground game so far.
Flores keeping moving, preventing Can from controlling successfully.
Can tries to free his leg and advance position but Flores is retaining full guard.
Can wants to stand but Flores is controlling his posture from full guard.
Can seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Can trying to control the position from guard on top but Flores is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Flores is working an open guard so Can takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Can shoots for a double leg takedown but Flores sprawls well. He's pushed Can's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Flores tries to counter with a takedown but Can is quick to defend against it.
Genghis Can seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Flores shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Can trying to hold on to Flores's head to control him but Flores postures up.
Can pushes Flores off looking to stand but Flores dives back in and keeps control.
Can is looking for a sweep. Flores is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Can is trying to maintain the position but Flores is very close to passing his half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Can is trying to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Paul Flores will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Some wild striking there from Can.
Can throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Flores tries to counter by clinching up but Can breaks away and moves out of range.
Can misses with a right hand

and Flores counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Flores really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Can pulls Flores into guard.

Can looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Flores passes into side control.

Flores is trying to get an arm triangle but Can is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Flores goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Can rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Flores's guard! Nice work there by Can!

Flores keeping moving, preventing Can from controlling successfully.
Can passes Flores's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Can controlling the action here.
Can is looking to pass Flores's guard but actually Flores recovers to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Flores working for submissions but it's allowed Can to get to half guard.

Can seems to be looking for submissions.
Flores is refusing to be controlled, as Can sits in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Flores trying to control but Can postures up.
Flores wants to get back to full guard.
Can prevents Flores from standing back up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Can blocks the strikes from Flores.
Can working Flores over with strikes.


Flores is rocked!
Can lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Flores quite badly. Flores pulls Can in close trying to recover. Can postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Flores on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Flores doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Genghis Can!
