PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fletcher Bowen (ranked 24582 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abdourahmane Aladji (ranked 5530 p4p, 0 weight class). Aladji has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Fletcher Bowen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Abdourahmane Aladji!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aladji pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Bowen darts in looking for a takedown but Aladji gets double underhooks and turns Bowen into the cage.
Aladji throws a right hand that Bowen ducks under and follows up with a left that Bowen also avoids with ease.

Aladji fails to land the takedown.
Bowen fails to land the takedown.
Bowen fails in his attempt to clinch.
No luck for Bowen with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fletcher Bowen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bowen tries to clinch up but Aladji circles away and keeps his distance.

and Bowen counters with a three punch combo that has Aladji backing up. Aladji nods at Bowen to acknowledge the strikes.

Bowen tries to score a power double leg takedown but Aladji sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bowen somewhat.

Aladji drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Bowen defends it well.

Bowen closes the distance and clinches.
Aladji is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Bowen to keep the fight standing.

Aladji jumps guard but Bowen stands there with Aladji around his waist. Aladji gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Bowen ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Bowen no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Bowen wants to stand but Aladji is controlling the position.

Bowen is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Aladji is aware though and is defending well.

Bowen has his foot on Aladji's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Aladji works his way back into a safe position though.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Aladji is in close to Bowen's body, working some short punches and elbows.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Bowen closes this distance looking for a takedown but Aladji circles away.
Bowen could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Bowen dives in for a single leg takedown but Aladji sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Aladji was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.

Bowen is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Aladji is defending well for now.

Bowen can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight.

Aladji wants to improve his position but Bowen is controlling well.

Aladji looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Aladji has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bowen is working away from the top position though.

Bowen closes the distance and clinches up with Aladji, looking for a takedown. Bowen pushes Aladji against the cage but Aladji circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

As Bowen backs off Aladji throws a huge counter combo but Bowen manages to avoid it all.
Abdourahmane Aladji seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Aladji shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bowen napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Bowen pushes Aladji away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Aladji gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Aladji has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Aladji gets tackled into the cage by Bowen. Bowen maintains the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Abdourahmane Aladji will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Bowen shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Aladji sprawls well. Aladji wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bowen gets slowly back to his feet.

Bowen throws a big elbow that misses.
Aladji is looking to stand up but Bowen isn't so interested in that idea.
Aladji lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Aladji passes easily into side control. Nice work.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Aladji throws a strike aimed at the side of Bowen's head but Bowen avoids it well.
Bowen is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Aladji is controlling him well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Aladji is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Bowen still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Bowen has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Bowen stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

I think Aladji has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
