The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Winston Alpacca and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas goes for a double leg but Ruutu avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ruutu continues to drive forward.
Ruutu gets a double leg takedown into Thomas 's guard.
Ruutu lands a couple of digs.
Thomas trying to control the position.
Ruutu is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ruutu won't allow Thomas to get back to his feet.
Ruutu's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Thomas wants to improve his position but instead Ruutu has moved into half guard.

Thomas tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ruutu sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Thomas somewhat.

Ruutu works over Thomas 's head and body with a nice combination.
A jab from Ruutu finds it's way through Thomas 's defenses.
Ruutu displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Thomas .

A looping hook to the body misses from Ruutu. Thomas does a little dance to reset his feet.

and Ruutu counters with a single leg into guard. Thomas didn't expect that.

Thomas pulls Ruutu in close to prevent any damage.
Ruutu is working Thomas over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thomas is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ruutu is stalling in the full guard.
Ruutu won't allow Thomas to sweep him here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ruutu slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Ruutu slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Ruutu works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ruutu grinds an elbow into Thomas 's temple.
Thomas takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Thomas tries a head kick but it misses.
And Ruutu tries to counter it with a takedown but Thomas pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Ruutu drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ruutu stands and throws Thomas 's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Ruutu lands some shots froms side control.
Ruutu lands a strong strike to the head of Thomas . That's dazed him! Ruutu looking to finish here. Thomas is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Ruutu lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
