PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Colin McLauhglin (ranked 1723 p4p, 64 weight class) and Tank Shamrock (ranked 1618 p4p, 41 weight class). McLauhglin's entrance music is What the hell are you waiting for. A fine choice. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Colin McLauhglin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tank Shamrock!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Richard Clark and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shamrock scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Shamrock is taking a breather. McLauhglin says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Shamrock prevents McLauhglin from improving his position.
Shamrock wants to free his trapped foot but McLauhglin is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Still in half guard, Shamrock seems content to control.
McLauhglin wants to get back to full guard.

McLauhglin is pressing down on Shamrock's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shamrock stays in close to McLauhglin's body and controls the position.
Let's hope that Shamrock has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Shamrock trying to control but McLauhglin is working from the bottom.
Shamrock slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

and McLauhglin cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

McLauhglin tries to clinch but Shamrock is having none of it.
Shamrock throws a leg kick which misses McLauhglin's front leg but catches the back leg as McLauhglin tries to avoid it.
McLauhglin takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Shamrock throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

McLauhglin is looking to counter the offense by Shamrock and move into the clinch.
Shamrock attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McLauhglin shoots for a takedown but Shamrock saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
McLauhglin takes one to the chin there.
McLauhglin walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
McLauhglin jabs Shamrock right on the nose. Shamrock blinks but takes it well.

A telegraphed right hand from Shamrock misses the target.
Shamrock listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Shamrock throws a lazy uppercut
and McLauhglin counters with a stiff right hand.


That has opened up Tank Shamrock's cut even more.
McLauhglin bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
McLauhglin digs a good body shot into Shamrock's ribs.
McLauhglin looks to land a combination but Shamrock avoids it well.
Shamrock comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
McLauhglin moves out of range of the leg kick from Shamrock.
Shamrock misses with a body shot
and McLauhglin counters with a two punch combo.
McLauhglin bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
It looked like McLauhglin wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

McLauhglin lands a high kick to the side of Shamrock's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! McLauhglin dives into guard, looking to finish.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McLauhglin throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Shamrock working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from McLauhglin.
McLauhglin throws an elbow that misses. Shamrock uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in McLauhglin's guard. Nice move by Shamrock!

McLauhglin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Shamrock slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Colin McLauhglin will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Tank Shamrock's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

It looked like McLauhglin wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

and McLauhglin counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Shamrock thinking.
McLauhglin misses the shot to the body.
Shamrock throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and McLauhglin counters with a nice body kick.
McLauhglin uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Shamrock.
Shamrock throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A little feinted left hand from McLauhglin on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
The fighters circle momentarily. Shamrock darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Shamrock misses with a low kick.
McLauhglin is looking to counter with head kicks.
McLauhglin stuns Shamrock with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

McLauhglin swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Shamrock darts in trying to clinch
and McLauhglin counters with a stiff right hand.


The cut above Tank Shamrock's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
McLauhglin is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Shamrock.
Shamrock throws a jab but it's blocked by McLauhglin.
Shamrock is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
McLauhglin tries to clinch but Shamrock moves away
and Shamrock connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Colin McLauhglin is winning the standup battle so far.
Shamrock gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling McLauhglin to counter with a crisp jab.


Tank Shamrock's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
McLauhglin throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Shamrock forces McLauhglin back against the cage and clinches.

Shamrock misses with some punches.
A head punch blocked on the inside by McLauhglin.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McLauhglin misses with a hook from the clinch.
Shamrock keeps the fight in the clinch, despite McLauhglin's efforts to push away.
Shamrock lands a nice shot to the body.
Shamrock lands an elbow inside.
McLauhglin blocking some punches.
McLauhglin goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Shamrock has a couple of punches blocked by McLauhglin.
Shamrock lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
