PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between El Misterioso Damballah (ranked 1777 p4p, 218 weight class) and Shintaro Nomo (ranked 1457 p4p, 180 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, El Misterioso Damballah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Shintaro Nomo!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Chad Campbell and Lou da Vinci.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Damballah has managed to clinch.

Nomo manages to pull guard.
Damballah trying to control but Nomo is working from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nomo is on top in guard.

Nomo wants to control from the top but Damballah keeps moving.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Damballah tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Damballah escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nomo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Damballah definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Nomo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nomo seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The fighters are battling for position here. Damballah manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Damballah is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Nomo frees his head nicely. Oh but Damballah has switched to an armbar! Nomo is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
