PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Quin (ranked 282 p4p, 42 weight class) and Beast Boy (ranked 226 p4p, 35 weight class). Quin comes into the arena with Captain Jack - Iko Iko blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quin uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Boy.
Boy throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Quin on the side of the head.
Quin waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Boy.
Matt Quin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A telegraphed right hand from Boy misses the target.
Quin throwing a counter right hand but Boy manages to avoid it.
Boy moves forwards but Quin connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Horrible takedown attempt by Quin or perhaps it was just good defense by Boy, which made it look bad.
And Boy responds with a good body kick, but Quin manages to step out the way in time.

Boy has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Quin finds it's way round the side to connect with Boy's head.

Quin bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Boy's head.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Boy's coach down at DOG HOUSE!! was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Boy's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Quin rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Boy counters with a nice uppercut.
Quin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Quin won't allow Boy to get back to his feet.
Quin wants to pass the guard but Boy is keeping the position.
Boy utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Boy wants to stand up but Quin is controlling him.
Boy is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Beast Boy will probably get the nod.
That's time! Quin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Boy misses with a straight right.
Boy takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Quin fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Quin throws a right and a left that Boy avoids nicely.
Boy looks to throw the jab but Quin is out of range.
Boy takes one to the side of the head.
Beast Boy seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Quin lands the left hand.

I was talking to Quin's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
