PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ed Ruth (ranked 530 p4p, 79 weight class) and Pikey Chav (ranked 752 p4p, 118 weight class). Chav is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Shamrock. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruth on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Chav throws a hook but Ruth avoids it easily.
Ruth throwing a counter right hand but Chav manages to avoid it.
Ruth slips a straight right by Chav.
Chav's corner calls for a 1-2. Chav obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Ruth jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Chav lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Chav connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Ruth stuffs the takedown attempt from Chav. Chav gets slowly back to his feet.
Chav misses with a hook.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chav dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Ruth. That did some damage!

Chav has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ruth has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Ruth looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
The crowd cheers as Ruth lands an impressive looking overhand right. Chav doesn't seem phased though.

That has opened up Pikey Chav's cut even more.
Chav gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Ruth uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Chav.

Chav is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Chav is looking for a kimura but Ruth is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Chav to get the leverage.

Chav is fighting to break Ruth's control of his arms but Ruth is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Ruth bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Chav's guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Ed Ruth will probably get the nod.

Chav throws a lazy right hand but Ruth sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ruth misses with a wild body shot.
Chav only half commits to the counter leg kick.
No joy there for Chav, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ruth swings for the body but Chav moves out of range.

Chav stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Chav moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Chav feints and then cracks Ruth's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Ruth down.
Pikey Chav seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Ruth swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Chav rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Ruth counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Chav throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Ruth takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Chav throws a leg kick but Ruth sees it coming and checks it nicely.
It looked like Ruth wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Chav throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Chav lands with a straight right. Ruth didn't see that one coming.
A nice leg kick lands there from Chav.
Chav tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ruth manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Good exchange - Chav coming out on top.

Ruth shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ruth showed some decent athleticism there.

Chav wants to control but Ruth is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The fighters are battling for position here. Chav manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Ruth tries to free his leg and advance position but Chav is retaining full guard.
Chav can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ruth controls the pace.

Chav wants to hit a switch here but Ruth passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Chav there!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ruth postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Chav looks a forlorn figure.
Pikey Chav has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Pikey Chav's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Pikey Chav's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
