Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pekka Pera (ranked 85 p4p, 17 weight class) and Humphrey Baker (ranked 36 p4p, 7 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pekka Pera!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Humphrey Baker!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baker checks the leg kick.
Baker is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Pera on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Baker feints and then cracks Pera's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Pera down.
Pera walks into a jab.
Pera tries to score a power double leg takedown but Baker sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pera somewhat.
A jab lands there for Baker.
Humphrey Baker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pera throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Baker stalks Pera and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Pera's face. Pera staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Pekka Pera has been cut.
Baker is looking to chop away at Pera's legs.
Baker fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Pera manages to avoid it.
Pera throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Baker is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Pera shoots in and bounces Baker off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Baker has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Pera has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

We've been hearing reports that Pera has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Baker throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Peras head.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Baker is trying to break the clinch but Pera is controlling him.
Pera throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Pera bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Baker is looking to get back to his feet here but Pera is keeping cool and he's managed to take Baker's back.

The referee is taking a good look at Baker as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Pera!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

That's time! Pera's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Pera tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Baker was well out of range. Poor timing from Pera.
Pera darts in looking for a takedown but Baker gets double underhooks and turns Pera into the cage.
A punch lands to the side of Baker 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Pera misses with an uppercut. Baker saw that one coming.

Pera feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Pera has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Baker finds it's way round the side to connect with Pera's head.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Baker! But no joy.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pera pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Pera is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Baker can't stay in a position like this for much longer.


Baker is rocked!
Pekka Pera overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Pera connects with a bit shot that sees Baker covering up! More strikes from Pera and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Pera is our winner by TKO!
