Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Abdulsalam Atlangeriev (ranked 5809 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bernardo Antonio Costa (ranked 5938 p4p, 0 weight class). Bernardo Antonio Costa will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bernardo Antonio Costa!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, David Hoff and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Costa will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Atlangeriev closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Costa wants to control but Atlangeriev postures up.
Costa gets back to half guard.
Costa is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Atlangeriev's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Atlangeriev's back!
Atlangeriev can't escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Atlangeriev manages to reverse the position and now he's in Costa's guard. Nice work there by Atlangeriev.
Atlangeriev's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Costa is not content to let Atlangeriev control the position.
Atlangeriev happy to just control the position for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Atlangeriev thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Atlangeriev is staying tight to Costa's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Costa is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Atlangeriev is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Costa slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Atlangeriev prevents Costa from standing back up.
Atlangeriev slows the pace down in half guard.
Costa trying to hold on to Atlangeriev's head to control him but Atlangeriev postures up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Atlangeriev is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Atlangeriev seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Costa for as long as he can get away with.
Atlangeriev continues to stall.
Costa is trying to escape the mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
BOOM! Atlangeriev connects with a massive shot to the dome!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Costa throws a sloppy head kick and Atlangeriev moves out of range easily.
An attempted straight right counter from Atlangeriev misses the target.
Nice takedown defense from Costa. No joy for Atlangeriev on that attempt.
Nice sprawl there from Atlangeriev as Costa shoots in.

Atlangeriev shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Costa is trying to defend but Atlangeriev finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Costa tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Atlangeriev manages to move to mount!
Costa is squirming around, avoiding Atlangeriev's attempts to control the action.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Atlangeriev's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Atlangeriev wants to control the pace but Costa is squirming around nicely.
Atlangeriev pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Costa is trying desperately to improve position.

Atlangeriev is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Costa to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Costa shrugs it off.

Atlangeriev jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Costa manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Atlangeriev wants to lay and pray for a moment but Costa keeps working.

Atlangeriev working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Costa is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Atlangeriev's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Costa is trying to control but can't.
Abdulsalam Atlangeriev overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Atlangeriev is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Costa tries to roll over but Atlangeriev keeps him under control.

Atlangeriev is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Atlangeriev seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Atlangeriev passes to full mount!
Atlangeriev has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Costa's face.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Costa wants to control but Atlangeriev is having none of it.

Atlangeriev is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Costa is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Costa flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Atlangeriev anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Costa and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Atlangeriev slips an arm under Costa chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Atlangeriev has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Atlangeriev is squeezing on Costa like an anaconda would it's prey. Costa fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Abdulsalam Atlangeriev!
