PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fedor Vovchanchyn (ranked 3240 p4p, 129 weight class) and Jeff Messer (ranked 3848 p4p, 149 weight class). Vovchanchyn comes into the arena with The Emporors Ride by-EMMURE blaring out of the sound system. Messer has chosen Lumberjacks march-by Conway Twittie as his entrance music. Jeff Messer acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Fedor Vovchanchyn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jeff Messer!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Damien Edna and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Messer misses with an uppercut. Vovchanchyn saw that one coming.
A jab from Vovchanchyn does it's job there.
Vovchanchyn throws out a loose jab but Messer uses good head movement to avoid it.
Messer takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Vovchanchyn swings widly with a right hand
and Messer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.


It looks like Fedor Vovchanchyn has been cut.
Vovchanchyn throws a jab when Messer was well out of range.
Messer has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Vovchanchyn slips under a jab from Messer.
Messer fails with an attempt to clinch.
A cross from Vovchanchyn lands.
Vovchanchyn throws a big shot that misses.
Messer moves away from the strike by Vovchanchyn.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Messer! But no joy.
Vovchanchyn takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Vovchanchyn lunges at Messer with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Messer's hand.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Vovchanchyn throws a body punch but Messer moves out of range.
Vovchanchyn walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Messer ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Vovchanchyn slips a straight right by Messer.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Vovchanchyn lands a big right hand that sends Messer crashing to the mat! Vovchanchyn stays standing though and waves Messer back to his feet!
Vovchanchyn throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Messer slips under a jab from Vovchanchyn.
A big right from Vovchanchyn misses.
Messer clobbers Vovchanchyn with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Vovchanchyn has been working on his boxing with his coaches at BigIsland BigGuns Warrior Training in the buildup to the fight.
Fedor Vovchanchyn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vovchanchyn throws an ugly left hook that misses
enabling Messer to counter with a crisp jab.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Vovchanchyn throws a right hand that misses
and Messer counters with a series of strikes. Vovchanchyn will be more careful next time no doubt.

Fedor Vovchanchyn's cut is getting worse.
Messer ducks under a wild hook from Vovchanchyn.
Vovchanchyn is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Vovchanchyn misses with a left hand
and Messer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Vovchanchyn is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Messer looks to throw the jab but Vovchanchyn is out of range.
It looked like Vovchanchyn was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Messer.

and Messer counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
A swing and a miss from Vovchanchyn.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vovchanchyn uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Messer.
Messer swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Vovchanchyn counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Messer uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Vovchanchyn.

Messer's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Messer duly obliges.
The fighters circle momentarily. Messer darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.


Fedor Vovchanchyn's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

Messer drives through and clinches with Vovchanchyn against the cage.
Vovchanchyn tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Messer's elbow.

Vovchanchyn throws a head punch that misses.
Vovchanchyn lands a right hand.
Messer lands a hook to the side of the head.
Messer lands with a short shot to the head.

Vovchanchyn scores with a nice hook to the head.

Messer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Vovchanchyn slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Messer lands with a straight right. Vovchanchyn didn't see that one coming.


Jeez, Fedor Vovchanchyn's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Fedor Vovchanchyn's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:17 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Jeff Messer!
Jeff Messer decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
Fedor Vovchanchyn spoke after the fight, saying 'It was God's will.....'.
