PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Standup Fighter (ranked 3048 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mor Mormir (ranked 5764 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Standup Fighter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mor Mormir!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Atkins and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fighter shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mormir manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Fighter trying to control but Mormir is working from the bottom.

Fighter lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Fighter postures up and lands a big shot to Mormir's brow.
Fighter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mormir avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Mormir stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fighter swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Fighter is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mormir is controlling him.
Fighter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mormir is one step ahead there.
Fighter definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Fighter keeping moving, preventing Mormir from controlling successfully.
Fighter lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Fighter content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Fighter throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mormir works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Fighter postures up in Mormir's guard and throws a big left but Mormir blocks it.
Fighter works over Mormir with some ground and pound from guard.
Mormir working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Fighter.
Fighter wants to control from the top but Mormir keeps moving.
Fighter is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Fighter steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Mormir.
Fighter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mormir as he avoids it easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Fighter or perhaps it was just good defense by Mormir, which made it look bad.
Mormir throws out a counter right but Fighter avoids it with no problem.
Fighter closes the distance and clinches up with Mormir, looking for a takedown. Fighter pushes Mormir against the cage but Mormir circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Standup Fighter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No luck for Fighter with that takedown attempt.
It seemed like Mormir was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Mormir slaps away a takedown attempt from Fighter, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mormir tries to counter by closing the distance.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Fighter here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Fighter is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mormir can do to turn this around?

Fighter throws a strike but Mormir rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Fighter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Fighter.

Fighter shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Fighter was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Fighter takes a little break here. Mormir wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Mormir regains half guard there - taking advantage of Fighter's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mormir can do anything to dispel that myth.

Fighter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mormir swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Fighter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mormir tries to avoid it but Fighter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mormir to the ground. Mormir escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Mormir steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Fighter.
Mormir leaves Fighter with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Fighter dives in for a single leg takedown but Mormir sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Fighter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mormir but Mormir pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Fighter closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mormir did well to prevent Fighter getting side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Standup Fighter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Fighter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
