PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Akoni Gray (ranked 50 p4p, 8 weight class) and AC Slater (ranked 176 p4p, 28 weight class). Slater has chosen Stop What Ya Doin as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. This should be a great matchup!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gray has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Slater finds it's way round the side to connect with Gray's head.

It looks like Akoni Gray has been cut.

It looked like Gray wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

enabling Slater to counter with a crisp jab.
Gray dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Slater. That did some damage!

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Slater has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Slater crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Gray - the referee stops the clock and Slater gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Gray. Slater manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
