PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oswald Cobblepot (ranked 1451 p4p, 218 weight class) and Bruno Aires (ranked 932 p4p, 146 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Bruno Aires was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Oswald Cobblepot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 17 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Bruno Aires!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aires misses with a body shot.

and Cobblepot counters with an inside leg kick.
Cobblepot throws a body punch but Aires moves out of range.
Aires throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Good standup being displayed there by Aires as he connects with a hook.
Aires is looking to chop away at Cobblepot's legs.

Cobblepot blocks a jab.
Bruno Aires seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Aires uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cobblepot.

Aires looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

That was a close round but I would say that Oswald Cobblepot will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Aires takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
We've been told by Cobblepot's head coaches at BAD BOY MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Cobblepot connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Aires throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Cobblepot.
Cobblepot lands a leg kick that knocks Aires off balance momentarily.
Aires throws a body punch but Cobblepot moves out of range.
Aires throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Cobblepot counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

and Cobblepot counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

This has been an exciting period of action!

Aires shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cobblepot's guard.

Aires's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Aires ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cobblepot moves away.

and Cobblepot counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Oswald Cobblepot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bruno Aires.

Aires stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Aires jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Aires moves out of range of the strikes.
Aires takes a swing at Cobblepot's ribcage but misses.
Cobblepot is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

Oswald Cobblepot is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Cobblepot throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Aires stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Aires changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cobblepot looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

You can see the frustration on Cobblepot's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Cobblepot managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Aires.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aires is looking to take a break and control but Cobblepot is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Aires has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Cobblepot pushes Aires away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Aires gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Aires working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Aires wants to control but Cobblepot is keeping him busy.

Cobblepot is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Aires asserts his dominance and retains side control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cobblepot is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Cobblepot takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Aires working the ground and pound but Cobblepot is defending the strikes.
Cobblepot is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Cobblepot is trying to maintain the position but Aires is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Aires thows a huge punch but Cobblepot dodges it nicely.

Aires is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bruno Aires comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cobblepot has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
