Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Phil Arcuri (ranked 510 p4p, 68 weight class) and Pat Verbeek (ranked 651 p4p, 83 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Arcuri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pat Verbeek!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Verbeek uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Arcuri has time to react.

Arcuri appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Arcuri drops down looking for a counter takedown but Verbeek sprawls and moves away.

Arcuri throws a low kick but Verbeek moves out of range easily.

Arcuri shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Verbeek's guard.

Arcuri is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Verbeek is aware though and is defending well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Arcuri is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Verbeek is aware though and is defending well.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Verbeek makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Arcuri really felt that one!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Verbeek clobbers Arcuri with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Verbeek loads up on a big right hand but Arcuri slips the punch.

Arcuri shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Arcuri showed some decent athleticism there.
Arcuri looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Verbeek with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Arcuri tries to pass the half guard into mount. Verbeek knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Arcuri has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That was a close second round but I would say that Phil Arcuri will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Verbeek lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Arcuri is looking to chop away at Verbeek's legs.
Arcuri thuds a left hand into Verbeek's body.
Verbeek fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Verbeek thumps Arcuri with a low kick.
Verbeek uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Arcuri.
Arcuri stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Verbeek.
Verbeek bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Arcuri is looking to control Verbeek's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Arcuri avoid being mounted?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Verbeek scores with a jab. Arcuri acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Verbeek lands a leg kick that knocks Arcuri off balance momentarily.

Verbeek lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Arcuri crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Verbeek - the referee stops the clock and Arcuri gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Verbeek. Arcuri manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Arcuri shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Verbeek as he jumps to the side.

Pat Verbeek comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Verbeek has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
