PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jake Cyrus (ranked 25376 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guy Test (ranked 5078 p4p, 0 weight class). Jake Cyrus had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Cyrus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Guy Test!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big left from Test misses.
Cyrus looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Test throws an overhand right that lands on Cyrus's shoulder, as Cyrus tries to avoid the shot.

Cyrus definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Cyrus shoots in looking for a takedown. Test tries to sprawl out of it but Cyrus keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Test manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Test throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cyrus was covering up waiting for the punch and Test finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Test keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cyrus's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Test with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Cyrus can't keep his opponent in guard - Test advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Test performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Cyrus is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Test pulls his head out easily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Test misses the jab.
Test misses with a looping right.
Cyrus slips under a jab from Test.
Test throws a looping overhand right but Cyrus ducks down to avoid it.
Cyrus changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Cyrus keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Test.

Some bone on bone action there as Cyrus checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Test missing with a left hand there. Cyrus was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Test closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cyrus quickly recovers to half guard.

Test content to control rather than advance.
Test landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Test with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Let's hope that Test has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Test is nestled in close to Cyrus, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Guy Test dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Test misses with a straight left.
Cyrus thinks about countering with a head kick.
Cyrus slips a straight right by Test.
Cyrus looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Test is fending him off so far but Cyrus persists. Nope, Test circles away and we're back to standing.
Test looks to land a right hand but Cyrus moved out of range.
Test swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Test finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Test throws a looping overhand right but Cyrus ducks down to avoid it.
Cyrus tries to counter with a takedown but Test is quick to defend against it.

Test closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Test scores with a couple of short elbows.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Test moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Test cracks Cyrus with an elbow. That is naaassty.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Guy Test has got the better of the ground game so far.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Cyrus uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Test.

Test drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Test must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Test seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Test is pushing down on Cyrus's leg trying to pass to half guard. Cyrus is fighting to maintain full guard but Test has managed to sneak the leg through.

Test's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Test scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Guy Test showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Test shoots in and bounces Cyrus off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Test is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Test.
Test working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Test advances to half guard.
Test looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Test passes to full mount!

Test looking for a guillotine from mount but Cyrus is having none of it.
Test postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Cyrus looks a forlorn figure.

Test controlling the position easily from mount.
Cyrus takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Test sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Test pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Cyrus is bucking up trying to escape but Test cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Jake Cyrus has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Test tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Guy Test comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Test has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
