Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jerome Brooks (ranked 25268 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jairo Valea (ranked 5235 p4p, 0 weight class). Valea has chosen DJ Shadow - Organ Donor as his entrance music. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jerome Brooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jairo Valea!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brooks swings widly with a right hand
and Valea counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Brooks forces Valea back against the cage and clinches.
Brooks really is a fat lump.
Valea is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Brooks avoiding damage.
Brooks drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Valea gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Brooks tries to land a knee to the head but Valea blocks with his arms.

Valea's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Brooks takes the fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Valea wants a takedown but no success here.

Brooks bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Valea's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brooks distracts Valea with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Brooks with a flurry of punches that miss.
Brooks loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Brooks throws a strike but Valea rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Valea is pushing down on Brooks's leg trying to pass to half guard. Brooks is fighting to maintain full guard but Valea has managed to sneak the leg through.
Valea looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Brooks is trying to get back to full guard.
Brooks tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Valea has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Valea lands a big shot there that rocks Brooks but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Brooks wants to hold on but Valea pushes him away.

Valea connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Valea wants to control the action but instead Brooks gets a body lock and reverses into Valea's guard! Nice work!
Brooks is looking to work some ground and pound but Valea has wrist control.
Brooks wants to stand but Valea has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Valea wants to sweep but no luck.
Valea is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Brooks postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Brooks wants to stand and escape but instead Valea has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


Brooks is looking for a triangle but Valea pushes his legs off easily.
Brooks tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Valea throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Jerome Brooks has been cut.

Brooks fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Valea, pushing him back against the cage.

Brooks successfully pulls guard.
Brooks is trying to control the position but Valea postures up.

Brooks throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Valea escapes and throws Brooks's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Brooks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Valea taking a breather here.
Valea has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Valea cracks Brooks with an elbow. That is naaassty.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Brooks is looking to regain half guard here but Valea keeps moving and retains side control.

Valea tries for a kimura but Brooks is defending well.
Brooks gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Brooks sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Jairo Valea showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Brooks steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Valea. That one must have hurt.
Valea throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Brooks appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Brooks misses with an uppercut. Valea saw that one coming.
Valea lands a nice looking body kick.
Valea connects with a leg kick. Brooks looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Valea tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Brooks swivels and escapes.
Brooks closes the distance but Valea moves to the side
and Valea counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Brooks closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Valea can't do much from the bottom here.
Valea wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Brooks fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Brooks cracks Valea with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Brooks wants to stand but Valea is controlling his arm.
Brooks laying and praying for a moment but Valea takes advantage and regains half guard.
Brooks is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Brooks wants to take a breather but Valea is having none of it.
Valea won't allow Brooks to pass to mount.

Valea kicks off Brooks and gets to his feet.
Valea throws a right and a left that both miss.

Valea tries to keep at a distance but Brooks has taken the fight into the clinch.

Brooks closes the distance but Valea moves to the side
and Valea counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Brooks rushes Valea and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Brooks breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Valea fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Brooks.
We've been informed that Valea has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Valea comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Valea swings for the body but Brooks moves out of range.
Brooks looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Valea is fending him off so far but Brooks persists. Nope, Valea circles away and we're back to standing.
Valea throws a sloppy head kick and Brooks moves out of range easily.
Valea fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Brooks on the side of the head.
Brooks blocks a head kick by Valea.
Brooks takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

An inside leg kick lands from Valea.
Brooks fails to land with a series of punches.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Valea - that will leave a mark!
Valea fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Brooks.
Valea throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Brooks's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Valea dives in looking to finish as Brooks flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Valea's strikes! Valea is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Brooks's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Brooks was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jairo Valea!
Jairo Valea was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
