Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Benton Riggs (ranked 5866 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thorn Dixon (ranked 5865 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Benton Riggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thorn Dixon!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riggs throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dixon dives in and grabs Riggs's left leg, looking for a takedown. Riggs pushes down on Dixon's head and hops out.

Riggs moves into range and clinches up with Dixon.

Riggs has hold of one of Dixon's legs. Dixon is fighting the takedown attempt but Riggs gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Dixon is wriggling around but Riggs manages to pass to half guard.


Riggs stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Dixon closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Riggs did well to prevent Dixon getting side control.

Riggs has one foot on Dixon's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Dixon dives in and scores a takedown into Riggs's guard.
Dixon trying to control but Riggs is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Riggs has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dixon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Riggs really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Dixon lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Riggs has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Dixon is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Riggs manages to break the clinch.
Dixon looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Riggs is fending him off so far but Dixon persists. Nope, Riggs circles away and we're back to standing.
Riggs swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Dixon instigates a clinch.
Riggs is trying to pull guard but Dixon has him pressed against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Riggs breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dixon swats away the attempt to clinch by Riggs.
Riggs tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dixon swivels and escapes.
Dixon ducks under a wild hook from Riggs.

Dixon shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Dixon showed some decent athleticism there.

Riggs has one foot on Dixon's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dixon is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Riggs's half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Riggs gets full guard.
Dixon must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Dixon trying to control but Riggs is working from the bottom.

Riggs looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Riggs is breathing heavily.
Dixon working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Riggs can't keep his opponent in guard - Dixon advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Dixon connects with a nice short shot to Riggs's temple.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Riggs looking for submissions off his back.
Dixon controlling the action here.
Dixon working over Riggs with some ground and pound. Riggs looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Benton Riggs dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Dixon throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Riggs.

Dixon closes the distance and pushes Riggs back into the cage.
Dixon is looking to control Riggs's arms but Riggs gets an underhook and turns him. Now Dixon has his back to the cage.
Dixon tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Dixon prevents the takedown attempt.

Riggs breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dixon throws a sloppy head kick and Riggs moves out of range easily.
Riggs blocks a head kick by Dixon.
Riggs is looking to counter the offense by Dixon and move into the clinch.
Dixon throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Riggs defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Dixon.

Dixon has managed to clinch.
Dixon is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Riggs is keeping busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Riggs blocks a body shot from Dixon.
Riggs is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Dixon to keep the fight standing.
Riggs has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Dixon is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Benton Riggs. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dixon drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Riggs pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Dixon closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Riggs manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Dixon is breathing heavily.
Dixon should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Riggs fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Dixon lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dixon misses with a wild combination.
Dixon closes the distance and clinches up with Riggs, looking for a takedown. Dixon pushes Riggs against the cage but Riggs circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dixon tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Riggs was well out of range. Poor timing from Dixon.
Riggs swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Some bone on bone action there as Riggs checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Riggs lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Dixon falls off balance throwing a combination
enabling Riggs to counter with a crisp jab.

Dixon fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Riggs sprawls well initially but Dixon persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Riggs manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Dixon keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Riggs breaks from the clinch.

Dixon clinches.

Riggs drags the fight down to the ground.

Dixon stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Riggs has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Dixon manages to get his head free but now Riggs has transitioned to an armbar! Dixon grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Riggs! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Benton Riggs!
