The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Burkman rushes Maximus and presses him up against the cage.
Burkman tries to work over Maximus's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Maximus misses with some punches.

Burkman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Maximus throws a nice looking combination but Burkman bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Burkman tries to clinch but Maximus is having none of it.
Maximus ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Burkman moves away.
Maximus misses with a jab, cross combination.

Burkman moves into the clinch.
Maximus misses with the head strike.
Burkman fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Burkman goes for a takedown in the clinch but Maximus prevents it.
Maximus wants to break the clinch but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Burkman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Maximus manages to get himself to full guard.

Maximus throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Maximus is working an open guard so Burkman takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Maximus cracks Burkman with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Maximus has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Burkman to stand back up!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Burkman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Burkman displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Maximus throws out the jab.
Burkman moves out of range as Maximus strikes.
Maximus avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Maximus scores with a hook to the body. Burkman takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Maximus has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Maximus finds Burkman's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Burkman flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Maximus lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Burkman will be OK.

A very excited looking Brutus Maximus made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
