Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Finn Calvero (ranked 2653 p4p, 293 weight class) and Jairo Valea (ranked 4785 p4p, 459 weight class). Calvero comes to the cage accompanied by I'm a Gnome. Valea has chosen DJ Shadow - Organ Donor as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Jairo Valea enters the cage!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valea takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Valea misses with a low kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Valea.
Calvero checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Valea looks to score with a jab to the body but Calvero is just out of range.
Valea swings away with a body shot that misses
and Calvero counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Calvero lands with a hook. Valea tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Valea takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Calvero lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Valea moves out of range of the strikes.

Calvero gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Calvero lands with a right to the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A right hook to the body lands for Calvero.
Calvero lands with a light punch inside.
I was talking to Calvero's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Calvero breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Calvero blocks a head kick by Valea.
Calvero missing with a left hand there. Valea was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
A lazy body kick from Valea
and Calvero counters with a series of strikes. Valea will be more careful next time no doubt.
Calvero throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Valea stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Calvero lands with a nice body punch.
Calvero is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

A looping hook to the body misses from Valea. Calvero does a little dance to reset his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Calvero clobbers Valea with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Valea is rocked!
Valea lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Calvero circles away quickly and effectively.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Calvero, as that shot connected.
Calvero ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Calvero lands a jab to the head.
Calvero scores with the left hand. Valea knows he should have avoided that one.
Valea is still on wobbly legs! Can Calvero finish him?
Calvero lands with a straight right. Valea didn't see that one coming.
Calvero cracks Valea with a good jab.
Nice jab there from Calvero.
Valea misses with a leg kick
enabling Calvero to counter with a crisp jab.
Valea on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Calvero scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Calvero dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Calvero scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
A nice combination there by Calvero.
Valea throws a head kick but Calvero moves out of range.
Valea seems to have recovered his senses.
Valea looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Finn Calvero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Valea's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Calvero lands a left hand that snaps the head of Valea backwards.
Calvero digs a right hand underneath Valea's ribcage. Valea let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Calvero scores with a shoulder strike.
Still in the clinch, Calvero scores with a nice short uppercut.
Valea is trying to break free.
Valea wants to get back to striking at distance but Calvero won't allow it.
Valea drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Calvero gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Valea tries to break free but Calvero pushes him back against the cage.
Calvero lands a left hand.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Calvero lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Valea backwards.

Calvero's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Calvero lands a big right hand that sends Valea crashing to the mat! Calvero stays standing though and waves Valea back to his feet!
Calvero walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Valea drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Calvero swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Valea's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Finn Calvero!
Finn Calvero really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Knockdown Clothes logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
