PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Be Koto (ranked 5155 p4p, 523 weight class) and Pasha Mista (ranked 7867 p4p, 636 weight class). Mista is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Gopnik Dance. Pasha Mista will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Be Koto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pasha Mista!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Konstantin Menshow and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mista lands a nice hook to Koto's body. Koto takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Mista clinches up with Koto and pushes him back against the cage.
Koto tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Mista putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Koto in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Koto is trying to pull guard but Mista has him pressed against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Be Koto. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Koto drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mista gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Koto jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mista walks away with a smile on his face. Koto gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Koto counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Mista misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mista throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Koto appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Koto avoids the head kick by Mista.
Koto takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Mista stuffs the takedown attempt from Koto. Koto gets slowly back to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mista looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Koto went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Mista moves into the clinch.
Mista with a knee to the head.
Mista's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Mista lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!


It looks like Be Koto has been cut.
Come on Mista - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Koto tries to pull guard but Mista forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Koto goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mista prevents it.
Mista lands with a short shot to the head.
Mista doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Koto looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Mista lands a nice uppercut.
Koto takes a knee to the side of the body.
Mista dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Koto has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mista is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Koto ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Koto no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mista throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Koto works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Mista wants to control from the top but Koto keeps moving.

Mista is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Mista controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Mista is looking to work some ground and pound but Koto has wrist control.
Koto might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Mista is in close to Koto's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Mista throws a big elbow that misses.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Mista misses with a kick to the body.

Mista gets a clinch.
Koto jumps guard but Mista stands there with Koto around his waist. Koto gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Mista lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Koto fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Koto swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Mista throws a sloppy head kick and Koto moves out of range easily.
Mista misses with a body kick.
Koto changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Mista throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Koto appears to be looking for a big counter.

Mista has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mista looking to throw knees to the head but Koto is blocking nicely.
We've been informed that Mista has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Koto gets control of Mista's arms and successfully pulls guard. Koto will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Mista looking to sit in guard and control but Koto gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Koto is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mista is on top in guard.

Mista throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Mista looking to sit in guard and control but Koto gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mista can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Koto controls the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Koto wants to stand but Mista is controlling his posture from full guard.
Koto slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Koto passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Mista wants to control but Koto postures up.

Mista is letting Koto control him for a moment.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Mista can't do much from the bottom here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mista connects with a leg kick. Koto looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

That was a close second round but I would say that Be Koto will probably get the nod.

That's time! Koto's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Koto looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Mista misses with a takedown attempt - Koto sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Mista shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Koto as he jumps to the side.
Koto appears to be looking for a big counter.
Koto throws a right and a left that Mista avoids nicely.
Mista is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Koto looks to land a combination but Mista avoids it well.

Koto gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Koto is looking to stand up but Mista isn't so interested in that idea.
Mista throws an elbow that misses. Koto uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mista's guard. Nice move by Koto!

Mista is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mista working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Mista is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Koto is just riding it out for now. Mista eventually gives up the hold.

Koto is refusing to be controlled, as Mista sits in half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Koto keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Pasha Mista comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mista has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
