PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Juan Alfredo (ranked 24644 p4p, 736 weight class) and Joe Rodriguez (ranked 7929 p4p, 640 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Alfredo might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Despacito. The key to victory for Juan Alfredo has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Alfredo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Joseph Jones and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Alfredo.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Alfredo enables Rodriguez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Alfredo manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Alfredo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Rodriguez postures up in Alfredo's guard and throws a big left but Alfredo blocks it.
Alfredo pulls Rodriguez in close to prevent any damage.
Alfredo is trying to keep Rodriguez in close.
Alfredo wants to stand but Rodriguez is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rodriguez is stalling in the full guard.
Rodriguez trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Rodriguez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Rodriguez feints and as Alfredo raises his hands in defense, Rodriguez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rodriguez throws a strike but Alfredo rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Alfredo trying to control but Rodriguez is working from the bottom.
Rodriguez seems keen to control Alfredo's posture.
Rodriguez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Alfredo wants to control from the top but Rodriguez keeps moving.
Alfredo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rodriguez holds on and takes a little breather.
Alfredo trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Alfredo looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Alfredo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rodriguez on the ground.
Rodriguez has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Let's hope that Rodriguez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Rodriguez wants to stand and escape but Alfredo is having none of it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Rodriguez pulls Alfredo in to control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Alfredo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rodriguez dives in for a single leg takedown but Alfredo sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Juan Alfredo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rodriguez shoots in looking for a takedown. Alfredo tries to sprawl out of it but Rodriguez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Alfredo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Alfredo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rodriguez avoids it really well and circles away.
Alfredo moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromRodriguez.
Rodriguez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Alfredo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rodriguez scores with a takedown into Alfredo's guard.
Alfredo wants to get back to his feet but Rodriguez passes into half guard.


Rodriguez is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Alfredo is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
