Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bennett Mercer (ranked 24658 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kug Ukg (ranked 5783 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ukg looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Mercer is trying to keep Ukg in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ukg wants to stand but Mercer has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Ukg postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Mercer controls Ukg momentarily but Ukg frees himself.
Ukg controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Mercer manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Ukg ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Ukg no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Ukg working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mercer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mercer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ukg is looking for a triangle but Mercer pushes his legs off easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Ukg clinches up against the cage.
Ukg manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Mercer crunches a lovely knee into Ukg's ribcage.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Mercer is fighting off a takedown attempt but Ukg is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Mercer to the mat. Mercer regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Mercer uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Mercer tries to close the distance and clinch but Ukg swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Ukg shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mercer is trying to defend but Ukg finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Ukg looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Mercer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ukg in particular looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mercer tries to roll over but Ukg keeps him under control.
Mercer wants to get back to his feet.
Ukg content to control rather than advance.
Mercer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Mercer could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Ukg stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Mercer to get to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ukg pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ukg tries a head kick but it misses.
Mercer wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Mercer gets caught flat footed, as Ukg shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kug Ukg will probably get the nod.

Ukg lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Ukg shoots in and gets a takedown into Mercer's guard.
Mercer is wriggling around but Ukg manages to pass to half guard.
Ukg is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Ukg is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Mercer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ukg is one step ahead there.

Ukg makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Mercer looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Ukg advances to half guard.
Mercer pushes Ukg off looking to stand but Ukg dives back in and keeps control.

Ukg postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Mercer to stand up.
Nice sprawl there from Ukg as Mercer shoots in.

Ukg moves into range and clinches up with Mercer.
Ukg using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Mercer has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Mercer is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Ukg to keep the fight standing.
Mercer tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Ukg escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ukg has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ukg shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mercer manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Ukg is standing up over Mercer. Mercer looks to escape but Ukg dives into side control.

Kug Ukg has got the better of the ground game so far.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ukg tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ukg has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ukg stands up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ukg lands a high kick!

It looks like Bennett Mercer has been cut.

Ukg shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Mercer manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Ukg keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Ukg pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Ukg looking to score a takedown here. Mercer is defending well but Ukg drives through and ends up in Mercer's guard.
Ukg passes Mercer's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Mercer wants to improve his position but Ukg is controlling well.

Ukg decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Ukg lands a brutal head kick. Mercer looks out on his feet and Ukg throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
