PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Victor Stroev (ranked 8313 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amirkhan Adaev (ranked 4726 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Victor Stroev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Amirkhan Adaev!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksandr Martynov and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stroev will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Adaev blocks the body kick.

Adaev feints and as Stroev raises his hands in defense, Adaev changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Adaev is stalling in the full guard.

Stroev had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Adaev defends it easily.
Stroev trying to strike off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stroev trying to keep a closed guard but Adaev is proving a slippery customer.
Adaev trying to stand up but can't free himself from Stroev's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Adaev content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Stroev keeping full guard, as Adaev tries to pass.
Adaev showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Adaev has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Stroev is proving hard to escape from.
Adaev stays in close to Stroev's body and controls the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Adaev fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Stroev on the side of the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Stroev tries to clinch there but Adaev circles away.

Stroev clinches.
Stroev misses with a body punch.

Stroev successfully pulls guard.
Stroev not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Adaev is looking to stand up but Stroev won't let him.
Adaev wants to pass the guard but Stroev is keeping the position.
Adaev's corner is telling him to maintain position.
It looks like Adaev might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Adaev landing some decent shots from guard.
Adaev pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Stroev is keeping the position for now.
Stroev is trying to control the position but Adaev postures up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Adaev closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Adaev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stroev. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Stroev is not content to let Adaev control the position.
Adaev wants to stand but Stroev is controlling his arm.
Stroev on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Stroev tries to get out of the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stroev tries to improve position but can't.
Stroev avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Adaev.
Stroev is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Stroev wants to improve his position but Adaev is controlling well.
It looks like Adaev is going to stand back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Well, if Adaev is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Adaev connects with a nice short shot to Stroev's temple.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Amirkhan Adaev dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Adaev shoots for a takedown but Stroev saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A little feinted left hand from Stroev on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Stroev is defended easily by Adaev.
Victor Stroev is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Stroev doesn't manage to clinch there - Adaev circles away.
Adaev works over Stroev's head and body with a nice combination.
Adaev fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Stroev looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Adaev is fending him off so far but Stroev persists. Nope, Adaev circles away and we're back to standing.
Adaev shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Stroev sprawls well. Stroev wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Adaev gets slowly back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stroev throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Adaev counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Adaev has taken the fight to the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Adaev is pressed up against the cage. Stroev has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Adaev down to the mat. Adaev avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Victor Stroev. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Adaev lands with a right that hurts Stroev. Stroev looks to clinch but Adaev throws a short knee that drops Stroev. This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch and Knee). Amirkhan Adaev!
